- THROUGH OUR ART MAKING AND SKILL-BUILDING CLASSES
- BY PARTICIPATING IN ONLINE AND IN-PERSON EVENTS AND GATHERINGS
- THROUGH OUR ARTS EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM
Classes at Powerhouse transmit visual art-making skills and techniques to individuals at all stages of their artistic development. Our classes are designed to allow learners to move across the tools and workshops they need to realize their creative projects.
Classes range from beginner level to advanced, and include one-off workshops and multi-session courses. In addition to adult classes, our youth programs are tailored to individuals ages 13-19 who want to develop their creative toolboxes in arts production. All classes provide the time and space required to learn and practice new skills. Our approach prioritizes experiential-learning, or building knowledge and understanding through doing.
Our teaching staff are artists who have a passion for sharing their craft with others and who are committed to creating dynamic learning spaces at Powerhouse.
Our education team collaborates with art workers, neighbors, and industry partners to develop programming and create opportunities that matter. We make our offerings available to the broadest community possible by proactively mitigating and eliminating barriers to participation.
Class offerings for adults and youth currently occur in partnership with schools and local creative studios while Powerhouse redevelops its permanent facility.
Partnerships connect Powerhouse Arts with industry partners to learn the trade-based skills of art fabrication careers. Our educational approach investigates different ways of making, engages participants in creative problem-solving, and supports the actualization of artistic projects from ideation to completion.
Powerhouse aims to provide a sustainable education model to our partners. We work with each partner to create an individualized curriculum and/or programming plan to optimize opportunities for professional development and the acquisition of trade-based skills.
Powerhouse Arts has partnered with CUNY to offer an internship program specializing in hands-on learning and professional practice in the arts.
